Cooking With Emi – Kyoto

If you’re visiting Kyoto and are keen to learn authentic Japanese cooking from someone badass enough to teach you from their home then here’s your chance!

Sadly, we missed out on this opportunity as I discovered the website too late (just three weeks to goand our time in Kyoto is limited (three days). But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this unique and totally authentic opportunity that will be an experience to remember.

Here’s some info to get you started: 

Cooking with Emi is

  • An opportunity to learn how to cook authentic Japanese (and particularly Kyoto) cuisine
  • Taught by Emi in her home
  • Taught in small groups – a maximum of 4 people
  • Offers you a choice of Savoury or Sweet lessons

Emi’s classes are as follows

Savoury Classes:

(Available in All-Vegetarian)

Course A:

Three Savoury dishes

Lesson Time: 2.5 hours.
Lesson Fee: 4,500 Yen per person – this is around $45-50 AUD depending on exchange rates.

Four Savoury dishes

Lesson Time: 3 hours.
Lesson Fee: 5,000 Yen per person – this is around $50-55 AUD depending on exchange rates.

Kyoto style o-bento/boxed meal

Lesson Time: Not stated.
Lesson Fee: 5,000 Yen per person.
Description: You will learn to cook 4-5 different kinds of small dishes and arrange them in an o-bento bako box.

Course B

Three Savoury dishes + one Sweet dish

Lesson Time: 3 hours.
Lesson Fee: 5,000 Yen per person.

Course C

Kyoto Home-Style Sushi Class

Lesson Time: 3 hours.
Lesson Fee: 5,000 Yen.
Description: Learn to make 2 – 3 kinds of home-style sushi. Choose from hako-zushi/boxed sushi, maki-zushi/sushi rolls, chirashi-zushi/scattered sushi or temari-zushi/tiny sushi balls.

Private class  – four to five dishes with one or two people

Lesson Time: 3 hours.
Lesson Fee: 10,000-12,000 Yen – this is $100-130 AUD depending on exchange rates.

Sweets Classes

Course A

Lesson Time: 1.5 hours.
Lesson Fee: 2,500 Yen – this is $25-30 AUD depending on exchange rates.
Description: Learn to make one kind of dessert and enjoy with a cup of green tea.

Course B

Lesson Time: 2.5 hours.
Lesson Fee: 3,000 Yen – this is $30-35 AUD depending on exchange rates.
Description: Learn to make two kinds of dessert and enjoy with a cup of green tea.
